Important safety notice · Version August 13, 2026
Verify before you cook.
Allergens
More than 160 foods can cause allergic reactions. U.S. law identifies nine major allergens—milk, egg, fish, crustacean shellfish, tree nuts, peanuts, wheat, soybeans, and sesame—but a person may react to other foods. Ingredient formulas and labels can change. Read the complete current label every time and contact the manufacturer, restaurant, recipe creator, or retailer if anything is uncertain.
Cross-contact and substitutions
A recipe that does not list an allergen may still be unsafe because of shared equipment, preparation surfaces, bulk bins, restaurants, factories, packaging, or cross-contact. Grocery providers may match or substitute a different product. Review the exact product, package label, “contains” statement, precautionary warnings, and substitution before purchasing, preparing, or serving it.
Imported and automated recipes
Website, social-media, photo, pasted-text, and AI-assisted imports can omit or misread ingredients, quantities, warnings, temperatures, and steps. Cookendium does not independently test recipes. Compare the saved recipe with the original source and correct it before cooking.
Food handling
Use safe handling and storage practices: clean hands and surfaces, separate raw foods, cook with a food thermometer to an appropriate safe internal temperature, and refrigerate promptly. Recipe timing and appearance are not reliable substitutes for a thermometer. Follow current guidance from the USDA safe-temperature chart.
Medical needs and emergencies
Ask a qualified clinician or registered dietitian for individualized allergy, intolerance, pregnancy, immune-system, medication, or dietary advice. Do not delay professional care because of information in Cookendium. For a suspected severe allergic reaction, poisoning, or other emergency, contact local emergency services immediately.
For more information, review the FDA’s food-allergy guidance, the Terms of Use, and the Privacy Policy.
